Bheera Dam

Bheera Dam
(Based on Latest visit Oct 2017)

The dam also known as Unnaiyi Dam. The Bheera village suddenly became famous in May 2017 as its Max temp. recorded highest in Maharashtra. Its also recognized as end point of Andharban-Jungle trek. It is a gateway of Devkund waterfall too.
Its a peaceful place to spend one day.

How to Reach :
Approx 100 km. from Pune.
Pune-Pirangut-Paud-Mulashi dam backwater road-Tahmini ghat-Nive-Plus valley view point- when tahmini ghat ends go straight,( Don't take left turn to Bhagad MIDC road which is wider)- go ahead- Varachi Wadi village-Take right trun to Patnus village (left turn goes to Kundlika river rafting - Mumbai) -Patnus village -take right turn to Bheera dam- Its Dam project place i.e. Tata Power House - Park your vehicle.
The road condition is good from Pune to Varchi wadi village. Varachi Wadi to Bheera dam its narrow road but condition is good. Road had bad condition from Chandani chauk Pune to Male villahe (Mulshi Dam).
Avoid night drive in Tahmini ghat in rainy and winter season.

Parking : 
Free Parking place is available at Bheera dam project i.e. Tata Power House. You can take vehicle upto the Dam wall place.

Food and Stay :
Many veg-non veg  restaurants are available from Pune to Tahmini ghat. Then small restaurants are there at Varchi Wadi and Patnus village. Many restaurants are opened only on Sundays. No tiffins are required. Many home made hotels are there. 

Home stay with food also provided in Patnus village which is nearest village to the dam.

What to See :
The Bheera dam is very calm and cool place. You can have look of beautiful scene of dam water and Kundlika Valley mountains at the background. Its the peaceful place to roam around in the nature.
The incoming running water channel after power project generation can be observed from one corner of the dam wall.

The way to Devkund wanterfall starts from here.
The end point of Andharban trail can be seen other side dam.  

Trek safety :

  • Avoid on weekdays ! 
  • Take care in monsoon season, the land become sleepery due to heavy and continuous rain. 
  • Summers are hot. 
  • Best season July to April.

Shivneri Fort : The Birthpalce of the Great Shivaji Maharaj

शिवनेरी Shivneri Fort
One of the most visited and well maintained important fort in Maharashtra State which is the birthplace of the great Chhatrpati Shivaji Maharaj.
How to Reach : Pune-Peth-Manchar-Kalamb-Narayangaon- take right turn for Junnar-Shivneri fort. Junnar is the situated on the foothill of Fort Shivneri.(Distance approx 100 km)
Parking :
Small Vehicles goes to the midway of the fort. The paved parking place available there only. The paved steps start from the parking only. Buses should be parked at the base only to avoid traffic jam in the Shivneri ghat.

Food and Stay : There are many hotels and restaurants situated in the Junnar City for individuals or groups.

About Trek : 
Most of the people goes by vehicle. Few trekkers prefer to trek it.
The trek start from behind the college building and way to Shivneri fort from east side. On the Google map it is labelled as chain road. The whole trek will take 1 and half hrs to ascend. Last phases are risky where chains are fixed. The chains are quite old so risky to trust on its strength. The chains are broken and remained few pieces. 
If you go by vehicle, then go to the parking point then follow the paved steps going to the fort.


What to See :
The inspiration to visit Shivneri fort is to see the birthplace of Shivaji Maharaj. The place is well maintained. It is situated at the end of the fort from entrance side. The Mahal is neatly maintained. The place has inevitable importance in the history of Maharashtra. 
Shivai devi temple, Ambarkhana, Shivkunj, Kadelot Kada,(death punishment) Mahadarawaza, Hatti Darawaza, Badami lake,  Parvangicha Darwaza,  Peir Darwaza, Shipai Darwaza, Phatak Darwaza and Kulambkat Darwaza, water tanks etc.

Trek-Safety : 
  • Get latest info about conditions of the chain route.
  • Don't try unnecessary thrill - adventure.
  • Maintain the dignity of the fort. 

Nearby Place : Hadsar fort, Chavand, Narayangad, Nimgiri fort, Naneghat, Darya ghat, Malshej ghat, Lenyadri caves and Ganapati temple etc.
