Exploring Ratangad Fort: A Thrilling Trek from Pune

Ratangad Fort, known as the "Jewel of Forts," offers a thrilling trekking experience, panoramic views, and a glimpse of Maharashtra’s rich history. Here’s a simple guide for planning your trek from Pune.

How to Reach Ratangad from Pune:

From Pune, drive or take a bus to Bhandardara via Sangamner (about 180 km). Then, head to Ratanwadi village (20 km from Bhandardara), the starting point for the trek. Regular buses and private vehicles make this route accessible.

Stay and Food:

Bhandardara has budget hotels, while locals at Ratanwadi offer homestays. Simple homemade meals are available at these stays, or you can bring packed food and snacks for the trek.

The Trek Route and Difficulty:

The trek is around 4-5 hours (moderate difficulty). The route has scenic trails, rock patches, and iron ladders toward the top. The best time to trek is post-monsoon (October-February) when the landscape is lush.

What to See on Ratangad Fort:

- Amruteshwar Temple: Start your journey with this 1,000-year-old Shiva temple in Ratanwadi.

- Nedhe Point: Also known as the “Needle Hole,” this naturally carved rock formation offers a fantastic view.

- Breathtaking Views: Enjoy vistas of Bhandardara Lake, nearby forts, and the Sahyadri range.

- Water Cisterns and Caves: These ancient water tanks and caves are remnants of history and make great rest spots.

Things to Carry:

- Sturdy trekking shoes, water (2-3 liters), snacks, and packed meals.

- Cap, sunscreen, and a small first-aid kit.

- Torch for early mornings or evening treks.

This trek to Ratangad fort promises adventure, history, and nature’s beauty, perfect for a day or weekend getaway!
